Ensenada yesterday and today
Thanks to its large protected harbor and significant modern port facilities,
Ensenada is Baja California's leading seaport. As a result, Ensenada flourishes from a
variety of seaport related industries, including commercial fishing, sport fishing, the cruise
ship industry, manufacturing, an International seaport for the import export trade
industry, world famous vineyards, such as Santo Thomas, and of course the tourism
industry.

Shopping, Tacos and
Cantinas abound in the Ensenada shopping zone - Calle Primera
During the 1920's,
the Casino of Ensenada was an attraction for Americans during the days of
Prohibition. Americans living near the California Mexico border
found their way down to Ensenada to quench their thirst for alcohol and
for life in general.
Today, visitors to
this city can take advantage of many recreational activities like Sport
Fishing, Sailing, Surfing, Scuba Diving, Horseback Riding, Golf, Tennis,
Whale Watching, Bike Riding, Roller Skating, Bowling and more! The
Port town of Ensenada is visited by the major cruise ship companies that
sail the Pacific Ocean, with more than 50 arrivals per month,
bringing more than 385,000 visitors per year. The Baja California
government’s goal is to place Ensenada as a major tourism port city.
To achieve this goal, industrial facilities are being relocated in the
northern zone of the port, while the southern part is reserved for tourist
resorts including two marinas, a mall, an entertainment center and a park.
Ensenada is
Internationally known for its almost perfect climate, its varied
International Cuisine and as the center for the Baja 1000 and Baja 500 off
road races. These world renowned off-road races attract the best of the
best off-road racers and manufacturers from around the world.
Additionally, Ensenada and the Hotel Bahia host the world famous
International Newport to Ensenada Yacht Race. These yacht crews from
around the world receive international recognition and attention.
Big names enter the race too, such as America's Cup racer Dennis Conner in
